Liberty boosts support for women in sports

Non-bank lender Liberty has expanded its support for women in sports by becoming the principal partner of the inaugural A-League All Stars Women’s team.

The partnership was announced as the team gears up to face Arsenal Women’s FC at Marvel Stadium on May 24 in the main event of the Global Football Week Melbourne, following a preliminary exhibition match between Tottenham Hotspur FC and Newcastle United FC on May 22.

James Boyle, chief executive of Liberty, said that the collaboration coincides with a year of record-breaking attendance for women’s football in Australia.

“We have proudly supported the women’s competition from the beginning of the A-Leagues and are as passionate now as we were then to champion gender equality and diversity on and off the field,” Boyle said.

“We’re excited to build on the strong partnership we have held since 2021 and thrilled to see the best of the best from the Liberty A-League match up against Arsenal, rightly billed as the main attraction.

“In this historic year for women’s football, we have watched proudly as the Liberty A-League has helped to accelerate women’s football on the domestic and world stage, acting as a training ground for some of the game’s best talent.”

Liberty has a longstanding history of supporting women’s sports and promoting financial inclusion and flexibility. Beyond football, the lender has extended its sponsorship agreements with the Melbourne Renegades and Essendon FC’s teams across various divisions until 2026.

Liberty also sponsors the Liberty A-League women’s competition and offers the Liberty A-League Pass, granting fans under 16 free access to games. The lender is also a major partner for the A-Leagues All Stars Men’s team, with their logo featured on the team jerseys.

Kate Jenkinson, Liberty’s manager of group communications, alongside the first four announced A-League All Stars players — Alex Chidiac, Hannah Wilkinson, Nestory Irankunda, and Daniel Penha — unveiled the new Liberty-branded kit at Marvel Stadium.

“At Liberty, we are passionate about fostering partnerships that align with our values,” Jenkinson said. “Being active in our support is important to us, and we’re proud to have seen the evolution and expansion of the women’s game with upgraded facilities and games in bigger stadiums.

“We congratulate Chidiac, Wilkinson, Irankunda, and Penha on their All Stars selection and are proud to see them don the Liberty logo as they take their place in the lineup against some of England’s best.

“We know that visibility matters and the more accessible role models in the professional sporting arena, such as the A-League All Stars Women, the more opportunities for future generations.”

Nick Garcia, A-Leagues commissioner, acknowledged Liberty’s continued support, building on the strong brand alliance of the past three years.

“The Liberty team shares our passion for equality, diversity and for empowering women to pursue their dreams,” Garcia said. “We’re excited to continue our partnership into the A-League All Stars matches.

“This year has been monumental for women’s football, and as we continue our work to grow the game, our partnership with Liberty has proven to be a vital part of progressing our journey.”
