This Brisbane BDM for Homeloans has been in finance for 20 years.

Homeloans Ltd BDM for Brisbane Janelle Packman moved into finance 20 years ago, with five years at Barnes Home Loans as Senior Credit.

BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same seven questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDM’s in the country.

How often do you see brokers in a week?
As much as I possibly can – face to face contact is absolutely necessary and I try to book my appointments in advance if possible.

What do brokers want most from you?
A fast response.  I find that if you don’t answer the phone – a broker will move onto the next BDM who will.  I would rather be the one they can talk to and if I can’t help them, then let them know who may be able to help.

What is your favourite part of the job?
I love the challenge.  I enjoy that every day is different and each scenario is different. Having been a broker myself, I know that at the end of every deal is a customer – and we do what we do to get the best result for the customer.

What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
The brokers who have CRM systems in place and have some structure are the best brokers to deal with.  To be a broker you need to have a real passion for the job and the industry. Being caring and understanding the customer’s needs is also extremely important for a broker.

Describe your ideal weekend:
My ideal weekend is relaxing with my husband or catching up with friends and family. It doesn’t really matter what we do as long as we are all together.

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
We recently did a deal for a customer at 95% LVR with 94 credit enquiries in an 18 month period.  It was bizarre – but with a little extra paperwork we were able to get this through one of our funding partners in the prime lending space.

How do you like your steak done?
It would have to be medium rare – nice and pink in the middle with mushroom sauce, chips and salad!
