BDM in the spotlight: Rachel Walsh
Virgin Money BDM for QLD/NT, Rachel Walsh (based in QLD) has been in the industry 13 years.

BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDMs in the country.

How often do you see brokers in a week?
Usually at least four days a week, whether that be one on one meetings, group training sessions or PD Days.

What do brokers want most from you?
To be responded to in a timely manner regarding phone calls and emails; to assist with pushing urgent files through; giving clear communication on their loan scenarios; knowing my credit policy and assisting them to settle their Virgin Money loans.

What is your favourite part of the job?
I love working with my brokers who I regard as true business partners and colleagues. I love being able to offer a very competitive, simple to understand product that rewards my broker’s customers with ongoing Velocity Frequent Flyer points.

What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
Those that are process driven and have good business structures for submitting their loan applications. The best brokers are passionate about their customers and the service that they offer throughout the loan life.

Describe your ideal weekend:
Not driving too far as I do a lot of that during the week! Spending time near the beaches in beautiful QLD is enough to keep me pretty happy.

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
In my last role there were too many to mention – generally around obscure income and security properties that were wanting to be used.

What's your top time saving tip and how much time does it save you?
Time block when possible to get tasks done without distraction.

How do you like your steak done?
Medium rare served with aioli sauce and accompanied by a chilled glass of sauvignon blanc.

Every Wednesday we’ll feature a different BDM from across Australia. If you’d like to be included, please email the editor.
