BDM in the spotlight: Tim Lemon

This RESIMAC BDM from Sydney crossed over from the insurance industry 11 years ago.

New South Wales RESIMAC BDM Tim Lemon says, "I was working in the insurance industry before I saw how easy these finance guys have it."

BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same seven questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDM’s in the country.

How often do you see brokers in a week?
I like to see at least 5 new brokers and 10 of my existing brokers a week.

What do brokers want most from you?
I find brokers want you to be available, to either take their call, return their emails quickly or visit them on a regular basis to keep them updated.

What is your favourite part of the job? Meeting brokers that are new to the industry. It’s always good to be part of that journey from rookie to experienced broker.

What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
The best brokers to me are the ones prepared to help every customer regardless of their current circumstances. I’m always impressed when a broker is prepared to give non-conforming loans a go.

Describe your ideal weekend?
Nothing beats a good weekend away or a couple of tickets to a game in the RESIMAC corporate box at ANZ stadium.

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
I get a lot of strange ones but my favourite one was the customer wanted to use his share in a race horse to buy his first home. I asked what he thought his share was worth and if he knew a good horse valuer. We need to have some fun in our line of work!

How do you like your steak done?
I love my steak cooked medium rare with a side of mash.

Every Wednesday we’ll feature a different BDM from across Australia. If you’d like to be included, please email the editor.
