BDM in the spotlight: Vanessa Mullaney
ANZ BDM for Victoria, Vanessa Mullaney has worked in banking for 11 years after it started out as a summer job in Dublin.

BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDMs in the country.

How often do you see brokers in a week?
Aim for 8-10 per week, as well as attend PD days and run regular training sessions for our brokers.

What do brokers want most from you?
Brokers want their BDMs to be responsive and to assist them in making the process as seamless as possible for the customers. They want consistency and want me to do what I say I am going to do. Working together with the broker ensures that we offer the customer the best possible experience.

What is your favourite part of the job?
Visiting brokers and helping them with their interactions with their customers. We’re involved in their customer’s big decision – buying a home. So helping the brokers understand how and why ANZ is an option for them gives me great satisfaction. Plus, learning about broker’s business and how it operates is the best way to get to know them.

What distinguished the best brokers you deal with?
I am fortunate enough to work closely with a lot of fantastic brokers. A good broker always has the customer front of mind.

Describe your ideal weekend
It would definitely be full of sport. If I could squeeze in a Hawks game followed by Ireland beating the Wallabies, there’s not much more I could ask for.

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
A customer wanted to settle on a new property and when the valuer arrived, there wasn’t a house instead; there was a tent on the land! Let’s just say, we didn’t proceed with finance.

How do you like your steak done?
