CBA aims to hit milestone for medical research

Over the past decade, Commonwealth Bank's Can4Cancer initiative has been instrumental in raising close to $17 million for Tour de Cure.

This funding has been channelled into 145 cancer projects, resulting in 32 significant breakthroughs, including recent advancements in pancreatic cancer research and melanoma treatment, according to Commonwealth Bank.

“Part of CommBank’s mission is to build a brighter future for all Australians and raising money for much- needed cancer research will ensure a brighter future for many Australians affected by cancer,” said Nathan Barker, head of community investment for Commonwealth Bank.

“We have an ambitious target to raise an additional $3.1 million by the end of this year to reach a total of $20 million raised for cancer research during our 10-year partnership with Tour de Cure.”

Barker underscored CBA's commitment to building a brighter future for all Australians through supporting vital cancer research.

He announced an ambitious target to raise an additional $3.1 million by the end of the year, aiming to reach a total of $20 million raised for cancer research over the course of the bank's 10-year partnership with Tour de Cure.

CommBank's support for Tour de Cure is facilitated through the CommBank Staff Foundation, with its flagship event, Can4Cancer, comprising a series of walks, rides, and runs held in capital cities across Australia. Over 7,500 CommBank staff members participate in these events.

In 2024, the Can4Cancer program will expand to include 16 events nationwide, encompassing 12 walks, two runs, a bike ride, and a swim, offering CommBank staff members various avenues to contribute to the cause.

Barker emphasised the bank's ongoing commitment to collaboration with Tour de Cure, recognizing the profound impact of cancer on individuals and families. He praised the incredible work of Tour de Cure in fundraising for cancer research and expressed pride in the enduring partnership between CommBank and the organization.

Tour de Cure CEO Simon Rountree (pictured above) expressed gratitude to Commonwealth Bank for their unwavering support.

“As an employee-driven initiative there is no better example of how a business and its people can tackle a difficult health and social scenario like cancer and make a difference,” said Rountree.

“It says much about CommBank, its culture, and its people when you can see the difference they have made and the lives that they have saved. And for this we are extremely grateful.”
