Parth Shah (pictured) is relatively new to the mortgage industry – and he didn’t come to it from a finance background. However, Shah didn’t let that stop him from becoming a success. He founded Jabsons Finance, and was named to MPA’s 2021 Top 100 Brokers just five years after entering the business.

Shah said that a bad experience with a mortgage broker spurred him to enter the industry. After his wife became pregnant, the couple decided to purchase a new home. However, Shah said their mortgage broker never tried to understand their goals.

The valuation of their existing home came up short, and the couple began cleaning houses on weekends to make up the money, Shah told MPA.

“By the time I completed the process of finalising the loan and building the house, I knew a lot about mortgage broking,” Shah said. “I had read a lot of books and spoken to a lot of mortgage brokers and bankers.”

Shah still wasn’t able to get the help he needed when he later tried to purchase an investment property. He began taking a course in finance – although he had no intention of pursuing mortgage broking as a career. However, when friends started coming to him for help – and referred their friends to him – Shah decided to quit his job and work as a mortgage broker full time.

Shah credits his success to avoiding “shiny object syndrome” and to having a first-class team.

“My team are my pride,” he said. “Our team leader, loan processing team, settlements and compliance team have gone above and beyond for each and every client of ours, and without them this would not be possible.”
