Fastest Australian runner shares his story

Battling injuries and fatigue, young sparky Nedd Brockmann captured the hearts of millions of Australians when he completed an almost 4,000km run from Perth to Bondi Beach for charity last October.

Completing the run in just over 46 days, Brockmann (pictured above) became the fastest-ever Australian to run across the country and the second fastest in the world – a jaw-dropping effort which involved him averaging more than 80km a day.

Greeted by 10,000 supporters at the Bondi Beach finish line, Brockmann’s aim was to raise $1 million for homeless charity Mobilise, but the 23-year-old from Central West NSW well and truly surpassed that figure.

He raised $2.5 million, with more than $600,000 raised on the final day. This is more than 300 times higher than Mobilise’s fundraising total for the previous year.

On Thursday, February 9, Brockmann will be the guest speaker at a free live streamed Bankwest Connect event. It is open to brokers and other industry partners and stakeholders and those attending will be among the first to hear Brockmann speak live.

Bankwest said Brockmann “went through hell and back 10 times” to complete his epic run, become a world-record holder and an “absolute Aussie legend”.

Attendees at the Bankwest Connect event won’t just hear about how and why Brockmann did the run but also about how the humble young tradie captured Australia’s attention, faced unbelievable challenges, endured countless injuries and learned his greatest lessons.

“Find out how Nedd managed to raise a whopping $2.5m for homeless charity We Are Mobilise and listen to incredible anecdotes about people he met across the journey – from amazing everyday Aussies to his idol Jimmy Barnes,” Bankwest said.

“You’ll be one of the first in Australia to hear from Nedd live – so this is not an event to be missed.”

During his run, Brockmann’s daily Instagram updates captured the hearts and minds of Australians, culminating in an emotional finish that will be remembered for years.

The support for Brockmann came from across all walks of life, from truckies driving past, farmers, kids doing bake stalls, council roadside workers and roadside diner chefs to celebrities and politicians.

He received messages of support from people including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Jimmy Barnes, Hamish Blake, Carrie Bickmore, Pat Cummins, Ash Barty, global UFC champion Israel Adesanya, Hollywood actor Lily James, Hugh van Cuylenburg and 2022 Australian of the Year Dylan Alcott.

Brockmann’s relentless focus on never giving up and showing up consistently inspired the nation, including his daily mantra of “get comfortable being uncomfortable”, which resonated with all ages and demographics.

Bankwest said Brockmann has an inspiring message that he has lived and breathed and is keen to share it.

The free Bankwest Connect event featuring Brockman will be streamed on Microsoft Teams Live for one hour on Thursday, February 9, starting at the following times: Perth AWST 10am; Darwin ACST 10.30am; Brisbane AEST 12pm; Adelaide ACDT 12.30pm and Canberra, Hobart, Sydney, Melbourne  AEDT 1pm.
