Doobov is a broking legend, with the numbers to back it up - $315,265,197 across 763 residential loans in the 2015-15 financial year. He was also crowned Broker of the Year at 2015’s Australian Mortgage Awards.

MPA spoke to Doobov as part of our Top 100 Brokers report, in which he came 2nd and smashed the $300 million barrier. Doobov prides himself on working efficiently, using his time in the most effective possible way: “I oversee every part of the process; I’ve got my finger on the pulse the whole way through. Some clients are happy to speak to me at each stage; others are happy for my staff to keep them updated. By having people involved in my process allows me to be more effective in the areas where they need advice and the handholding.”

At Intelligent Finance, Doobov has built a team where “everyone plays a different role in the company at different stages of the process. I’ve always had a plenty of staff who don’t need to be micromanaged… if someone drops the ball, their workload will backlogged, and people further up the line will be asking ‘where’s the deal?’” This efficiency allows Doobov to remain available to the customer, rather than tied up in admin, and works across a broad spectrum of clients: owner-occupiers, investors, both high and low net worth. Meanwhile, the referrals keep on flowing in.

Being a top broker, according to Doobov, is about using that efficiency to make your level of service the highlight of your business; “be able to hang your hat on another area of service or advice you can give clients, rather than just on rate.”

Justin Doobov will be talking about his lead generation, processing and management strategies at MPA’s High-Performance Business Summit on the 27th April, alongside other award-winning brokers including Jeremy Fisher, Peita Davies and Donald Tang.
