Queensland renews 30-year partnership with CommBank

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has been chosen by the Queensland government to handle all government banking and payment services for the next five years, with options to extend the agreement for up to six additional years.

The partnership will also see CBA providing a range of services to Queensland government agencies, aiming to enhance the way services are delivered to both individuals and businesses throughout the state.

The bank will introduce several new technologies, including PayTo and PowerBoard e-commerce systems, and NameCheck, a pioneering Australian service designed to prevent payment errors and fraudulent billing.

“We are delighted to be given the opportunity to continue our 30-year relationship with the Queensland government to deliver on the vision to create a thriving, inclusive Queensland,” said Andrew Hinchliff (pictured above), CBA’s group executive of institutional banking and markets.

“Our long-standing commitment to technology and innovation will help in delivering better services for Queenslanders to do business with their government now and in the years to come.”

CBA’s plans include the use of advanced analytics to assist the Queensland government in making informed, data-driven decisions, a crucial factor as the state prepares for events such as the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The bank’s efforts to facilitate secure and convenient transactions are already evident in projects like the Smart Ticketing system on public transport.

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to build on what we have already accomplished together for Queenslanders, including the delivery of Smart Ticketing and providing safer, more convenient payment methods,” Hinchliff said. “We look forward to seeing this in action during the planning and delivery of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
