Manitoba announces e-Registration
This week, Manitoba received an electronic registry system, courtesy of The Property Registry, in a bid to augment efficiency, security and quality of land title filings across the province.

Specifically, eRegistration, as it is known, is an automation system for both the submission and registration of documents pertaining to land titles, irrespective of their registration forms, and they’ll pull data from the titles and copy them into secure digital smart data forms. It is expected that the eRegistration’s accuracy and flexibility will result in a sharp decline in errors and omissions paper-based submissions usually have.

“The new eRegistration system moves Manitoba forward in helping to create a secure, digital and paperless method of filing land titles documents,” said General Manager of The Property Registry, Nancy Anderson. “This is a significant milestone for The Property Registry which gives Manitobans a better land title service. With eRegistration in place, we anticipate improved service times and a more efficient process for our clients.”

In addition to enhanced security, users will also enjoy shorter wait times and have an easier time searching for titles.

As of April 3 of next year, eRegistration will become mandatory for all lawyers, financial institutions or other users who file 500 or more land title documents a year. By October 1, 2018, however, even users who file more than 100 will have to use eRegistration.

According to Manitoba’s Registrar-General, Barry Effler: “eRegistration is part of the multi-year Client Service Improvement Initiative launched by the Government of Manitoba in 2011. The initiative has made many improvements in the way The Property Registry provides statutory services to customers.”
