Real estate agency scoops global award

New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty (NZSIR), the Kiwi arm of Sotheby’s International, has been named Best International Real Estate Agency Worldwide.

The Queenstown-based real estate agency topped the Best Real Estate Agency category and was named the Best Agency in the Asia Pacific at the International Property Awards – an event that aims to celebrate the achievements of those in the real estate industry worldwide.

Mark Harris, managing director at NZSIR, said the awards were an outstanding achievement for the agency – highlighting that they had an exceptional year, including achieving the top two New Zealand residential sales prices for 2019.

In light of the real estate agency’s top residential sales prices for 2019, the Queenstown Lakes District Council purchased the priciest residential property in the country this year – paying $15.5 million for a 14.6 hectare property at 516 Ladies Miles, Queenstown. It was marketed by NZSIR.

Queenstown Mayor Jim Boult confirmed that the property might include community facilities and might partially be used as a transport hub or park and ride facility. It could also be used for a new primary or high school.

Meanwhile, the second highest residential property price this year was for 10 Jackson Crescent, Mahurangi, north of Auckland – sold by NZSIR at $14 million to an “expat Kiwi.”

Harris described the Mahurangi property’s design as architecturally outstanding, adding that “changes to overseas investment law prohibiting the sale of residential properties to overseas people except Australians and Singaporeans had had ‘a bit’ of an effect on the top end of the residential property market.”
