Mortgage industry leaders to trek 125 miles for mental health awareness

Three founders of the Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter (MIMHC) are set to embark on a 125-mile walk from the West Midlands to London to raise funds and awareness for mental health.

The five-day trek, dubbed ‘Walk and Talk 2024’, aims to promote physical activity and open dialogue as methods to enhance mental wellbeing within the mortgage sector.

The journey will begin at Crystal Specialist Finance’s office in Tamworth on May 13, and participants will average 25 miles per day, concluding at HSBC’s office in London’s Canary Wharf. Throughout the week, participants are encouraged to track their steps and share their experiences online using the hashtag #walkandtalk2024.

MIMHC co-founders Jason Berry, Will Lloyd-Hayward, and Jonathan White are leading the hike, inviting industry professionals to join them along various segments of the route.

“The message is simple – let’s get walking, let’s get talking, and let’s ensure the best possible mental health for those working in the mortgage sector,” said Berry, who is also the group sales director at Crystal Specialist Finance.

The hike coincides with this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week, which also highlights the importance of physical movement for mental health.

Funds raised through the initiative will support UK charities dedicated to mental health and wellbeing. To contribute to the cause, interested sponsors can find more information on how to support Berry, Lloyd-Hayward, White, and their colleagues through the MIMHC’s fundraising links.

A mystery prize will be awarded to the participant with the highest step count during the week, provided the steps are validated using a suitable device.
