ATTOM adds building-permit data to its platform

ATTOM Data Solutions has rolled out its proprietary building-permit data tool that has over 200 million residential and commercial building permits across the country.

With the building-permit data, users can get monthly-updated historical insights into the life of a property, such as the kinds of construction or remodeling projects that have been done on a home.

Sean Mooney, ATTOM vice president of product management, emphasized the value of these building-permit insights in assessing risk or insurability of a property, as well as when appraising, understanding the total cost of ownership, and identifying potential home sale activity based on permitted projects.

"Building permits identify key events in a property's history," Mooney said. "Knowing the types of construction or remodeling projects that have occurred on a property, as well as the cost and completion dates of that work, really empowers anyone who is assessing risk or providing valuation services to make more informed decisions."

"Building permit data is an essential component that gives valuable details about a property, and we're pleased to add another data element to our ATTOM Data Warehouse," said ATTOM Data Solutions CEO Rob Barber. "ATTOM's mission is to power innovation with premium property data and analytics, and in order to do so we must continue to increase real estate transparency with comprehensive data that offers critical insight into the evolving marketplace."
