MBA hires new SVP and general counsel

The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) has appointed former Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Assistant General Counsel Michael Briggs as senior vice president and general counsel.

In his new role, Briggs will serve as MBA’s chief legal officer and will oversee the legal affairs of the association and its subsidiaries and affiliates. Additionally, he will lead MBA's human resources department and its Open Doors Foundation.

"Michael brings a rare blend of industry, trade association, private practice, and regulatory experience that will allow him to provide immediate value and leadership to MBA and our members," said Bob Broeksmit, president and CEO of MBA. "He has vast knowledge of the financial services regulatory landscape, both from within the government and from the outside."

Briggs spent 12 years as assistant general counsel for FDIC's consumer law section, where he headed a team that provided advice and counsel throughout the agency on a wide variety of legal matters.
