MISMO certifications program sees increase in participation

MISMO has reached a milestone, issuing over 100 professional certifications since the launch of its programs.

The certifications, which include the Associate MISMO Standards Professional (AMSP) and Certified MISMO Standards Professional (CMSP), were awarded to mortgage professionals and technology providers who demonstrated their commitment to effective business practices and adherence to MISMO standards.

The real estate industry standards organization also offers other professional certification programs for certified RON providers, eClose systems, eVault systems, SMART Doc systems, and more.

“MISMO’s Certifications are incredibly valuable to industry professionals who want to distinguish themselves as MISMO experts,” MISMO president David Coleman said in a media release. “The call for experts in MISMO standards implementation is growing, and this training and certifications program is meeting that need.”

“Education is a fundamental part of MISMO’s mission,” added Charlie Epperson, chair of MISMO’s education council. “These individual certifications help industry professionals improve their marketability, advance their standards knowledge, and demonstrate their subject matter expertise.”

Last month, MISMO announced a new development workgroup aimed at creating a servicing data standard for Federal Housing Agency (FHA) loans. It partnered with Federal Housing Agencies (VA, FHA, GNMA, & USDA) and fintech company Sagent to create the dataset.

The workgroup will identify core data from the MISMO Reference Model to facilitate loan servicing for each agency, allowing them to develop their individual dataset specifications.

Coleman commented: “The Federal Housing Agencies recognize that data standardization is increasingly more important given that loan servicing is moving toward a fully digital model, and MISMO provides the industry-recognized forum for standards development.”

“The creation of a servicing-focused data standard will help the Federal Housing Agencies to efficiently collect necessary servicing loan data to better serve borrowers in financial difficulty, enable data driven policy decisions, generate predictive analytics, and conduct oversight,” said Matt Tully, chief of staff at Sagent.
